"Auguste Vestris: The God of Dance " by Serge Lyfar" is dedicated to the prominent French dancer.

Auguste Vestris (1760-1842) got the rank of a soloist at the age of 16, at the age of 18 he became the principal dancer. Danced in the ballets and pastorals staged by G.G.Nover: "Trifles" (1778), "Altcestis" and "Narcissus and Moon" by Gluck. In 1780-81 he was on tour in London. In 1781-88 he danced in the Royal Academy of Music, mainly in the ballets of Ghardels. In that period he became "the most prominent dancer of Europe" as Nover defined it, having inherited the title of "The God of Dance". In 1794-1816 he was the principal dancer of the Academy of Music, performer of the leading parts of different nature in the ballets of Ghardel "Dancing Mania", "Daphnis and Pandrosa" of Megul, "Prodigal Son" of Breton. In spite of the defects of stature during 10 years thanks to his masterly tecniques and temperament Vestris rivaled with the claimant to his parts L.Dupor. Vestris was a wonderful teacher for dancers who had already gained training. In his class in Paris Opera there were M.Talioni, K.Grizi, F.Elsler, among his students - Didlo, Perrot and Burnonville.
